Although many of President Trump’s social policies are controversial, Trump’s stance on abortion has received particular backlash, particularly from women. A woman’s right to an abortion has been one of the primary focuses of the women’s right movement. Many feminists affirm the need for the right to their own bodies, free from the constraints of legislation by men. On January 24, 2017 (the first day in office), Trump signed a ban on federal money going to international groups that perform or provide information on abortions. This action made it abundantly clear to women that their rights were about to be threatened.

Trump grew up in the Presbyterian church and claims to be a Christian today. His religious views appear to influence his stance on abortion. He has been even known to say that there ought to be “some form of punishment” for a woman who underwent an illegal abortion.

Clearly, religion and the abortion issue is a touchy subject, with many different nuances and stances. What are your thoughts on the issue? Do you think that religion should stay out of politics, or do you think that it ought to be involved?
