End Homophobia, Accept Everyone

Homophobia is the dislike or prejudice against homosexual people. Like racism, I don’t understand why homophobia still exists in our supposedly equal society. I believe that any two people who love each other should have the right to get married without any difficulties or prejudices standing in their way. A gay or lesbian couple, married or not, doesn’t affect anyone else besides themselves. Why are people so against homosexual people getting married if it is none of their business nor will it affect anyone else besides the couple? I understand that according to certain religious texts, being in a homosexual relationship is against that certain religion. However, as I learned before, religious texts can be interpreted in a multitude of different ways. Therefore if society began to change their interpretations and attitudes of homosexual relationships, it would be a safer and more welcoming place for homosexuals in our country. Acceptance is key.
